The Predictive Power of Prescription Records in Health Underwriting

This presentation will focus on the use of de-identified prescription records in health underwriting. We plan to cover the following topics: data sources, de-identification process, and the predictive power of the Rx based risk score and improvement in manual rating accuracy. We will also discuss new markets / GRx innovations - self-funded products, PEO's, and associations.

Michael Bishop, FSA, MAAA, Milliman

Mike is a product director for the IntelliScript practice, a practice that specializes in prescription histories and related software tools for insurers. He is based in the Brookfield, WI office and joined the firm in 2013. Prior to joining Milliman, Mike spent 11 years at WellPoint. He was heavily involved in developing WellPoint's strategy for the post reform health insurance market as a member of a corporate exchange strategy team. He led underwriting and actuarial teams with responsibilities in the individual, small group and large group markets. He has considerable experience in commercial health insurance product pricing, financial forecasting, underwriting and risk management.

Private Exchanges - Overview, Opportunities, Challenges

This presentation will focus the variety of Private Exchanges in the marketplace. What characteristics of an employer might create an opportunity to implement a private exchange, what characteristics would tend toward a challenge. How have they evolved over the last 3 years, where are they headed.

Mikel Gray, FSA, MAAA, Milliman

Mike is the leader of Milliman's Northwest Health and Group Benefits practice. He has lead and participated in more than a dozen Private Exchange feasibility studies and has lead several RFPs for large employers seeking a Private Exchange partner. He has been a benefits consultant for more than 20 years, most of them while with Mercer.
